My nickel beans are having mixed results this year. I’m not sure if the slugs are feasting on the young sprouts or if I planted the seeds too close to the side of the raised bed. Filling a box does mess with the natural movement of the soil, so it’s possible I tried to get something to grow where it wouldn’t.
I just have to remind myself that gardening is a learning process. I’m making a note of this for next planting cycle!
Slug prevention methods are going to be key here because I love growing beans but they seem to really attract those hungry slime tubes. My mom recommends Sluggo Plus (the plus is not for extra slug eradication, but rather, earwig prevention, turns out!), so I’ll give that a try around my garden.
It’s still early in the season, so I’m hopeful I can succession plant and that some of the slow growers have time to catch up before harvest time.
