On hibernation

I did a lot last year—around the house, on the farm, at my day job, and during the minutes in between. Too much, for sure. Some of that wasn’t avoidable, and some of it might have been but I was stubborn.

I’ve been hibernating as a result, a forced slowdown from the frenetic pace of 2023. I sent myself sailing into 2024 with three weeks of rest and some new opportunities and goals in front of me. Success is certainly not guaranteed, but I’m hopeful that with some hard work and persistence, I can get there.

The farm is in its quieter winter mode, but with such mild weather coupled with intense cold snaps and windstorms, there’s been a lot to do to keep the place clean and safe. So I haven’t gotten to do any of my planting planning… which means it’ll be a “winging it” year!

I’m naively excited by that in a way. It’ll be more like getting lost and finding myself on an adventure.

Enjoy this exceedingly goofy picture of Phil!
