Gourd friends

‘Tis the season! Not only to make weird faces out of squashes and their relatives, but also to get stubborn head colds. Thus, this post is about a week late… but still relevant! Halloween doesn’t have a corner on the squash-craft market. Thanksgiving gets its turn too.

My friend A came by last Saturday and we spent a couple of hours turning two $5 bags of baby pumpkins and decorative gourds into some monstrous buddies:

I’ve got to hand the award for My Favorite to the one-eyed yelling gourd, but I had a lot of fun designing the zombie chicken. The egg cartons were a last-minute addition that sort of made the whole piece work.

Oh, shout-out to my solitary Big Max pumpkin, which grew to a very satisfying size of 39 pounds (but is too misshapen to carve into a real jack-o-lantern):

Did you carve any pumpkins this year? Care to share your handiwork?
