Banishing winter coughs

Since moving to the country, I get colds and coughs a lot less often. Probably some combo of the good air and space between me and the other sick humans.

I’m not immune, though, so there’s still usually one or two bad sicknesses each winter. I’m channeling my inner healer and preparing for the cold season by harvesting plantain leaves and drying them for tea.

Plantains are known to be a useful remedy for all sorts of ailments, including coughs, inflamed skin, and small wounds. If you’re ever out in the yard or field and get stung by a bee, grab a plantain leaf, chew on it, and put the poultice on the sting.

Plantain tea is easy to make—just steep the leaves in boiling water for a few minutes before removing them. I personally like to add a little bit of honey to mine because the tea by itself can be slightly bitter.
