Cultivation for the mind
is as necessary as food
to the body.Cicero
It always bothered me that people would sarcastically answer, “Living the dream!” to those who asked how they were doing. It undermines the true quest for contentment. Even when it isn’t said in jest, it belies all of the hard work, focus, prioritizing, and self-care that goes into actually living one’s dream.
So in my head, when someone asks me how I am, I say, “Cultivating the dream.” It’s about living for now and living for the future. Every day I choose, “today, I will savor the now”; or, “today, I will work for tomorrow.” This blog is about making both of those choices and finding the balance between them.
I’m blogging about moments and wisdom from my journey as a hobby farmer and all-around creative living. I plan to share snapshots of living the moment: beautiful and delicious food; the delighted face of a goat; a bee landing on a flower. I also plan to share my thoughts on ways that I accomplish what I set out to accomplish, in case it might help you accomplish what you set out to accomplish.
