Asparaguys

Growing up in my family, everyone and anything received a nickname. So it only makes sense to give my different crops nicknames of their own. Asparagus is one of my favorite crops to grow, and I affectionately call it “asparaguys”.

People are delighted every year when they see it growing, because it comes up from the ground exactly like thick grass tubes, just the way it looks when it’s picked and prepared. I always ask how they thought it grew, and they have no answer. It’s hilarious to me.

I’m excited for this year’s yield of asparaguys — I plan to grill, air-fry and ferment it for some delicious summer meals and beyond!
