Tomatoes in the wagon

I went a little overboard this year, friends. I bought several of those pod trays with the corn starch netting so I could easily pot things up or transplant directly, which meant I planted 72 potential tomato plants.

And 63 of them sprang up and lived. Oh lordy, that’s a lotta tomatoes.

Potting them up took two days because I forgot how much soil I had left, so I had to go back the next day after the store was open again. But I did it! And I ended up giving away 35 of the plants immediately to friends and family.

Our vacationing neighbors returned home to some baby tomato plants in their little red wagon!

A little red wagon filled with pots of young tomato plants.

Even though I’m not sure I can ever top eating my own fresh produce, the next most rewarding part of having a garden is getting to share the bounty with the people you care about. And who will share their bounty in return, in the form of labor, fresh-baked bread, or just keeping an eye on things for you.
