The big boy

I am growing a bit of a monster squash.

I knew it was going to be big — I planted North Georgia Candy Roaster seeds, after all — but I really had no idea what the reality would be like.

This big boy is BIG. Two-hands-required big. “12x banana” big. And, as far as I know, it could keep growing.

Two hands around a giant pale yellow squash on the vine.

I have plans for the big boy. These plans include some parmesan cream of squash soup, spiced squash muffins, and a sweet squash pie. I seriously can’t wait for fall, but at the same time, watching this impressive squash grow up has been fun. I like to go visit him each day to see how he’s changed.

Any thoughts on a name for the big boy? I’ve hesitated so far because I hate to name things and then eat them, but such is the farmer’s existence…
